Frequently asked questions
What this site is, how it treats consent and copyright, and how to get started with rope without getting hurt.
What is DeLano Bound?
DeLano Bound is a personal journal about rope bondage, published online between August 2004 and May 2009. Each entry combines an essay written by DeLano with one or more sets of photographs made in collaboration with the photographer Michele Serchuk and a number of rope tops. It is a record of one person’s practice, not a commercial site.
Is the site free to browse?
Yes — entirely. There is no membership, no paywall, no advertising and no affiliate links. The site loads no third-party scripts and sets no cookies, so there is nothing to unsubscribe from and nothing tracking you.
Were the models consenting adults?
Yes. Every person photographed for this site was an adult aged 21 or over, gave informed consent to be photographed and published, and signed a model release. Proof of age and identity was collected for every shoot and is retained by the publisher.
Is the site suitable for children?
No. This is an adults-only site. The content is non-explicit rope bondage photography, but the subject matter is adult. Parents should use device-level parental controls.
What is the difference between shibari and kinbaku?
Shibari (縛り) means roughly “to tie”, and in the West it is the general term for Japanese-style rope bondage. Kinbaku (緊縛) means “tight binding” and carries a stronger sense of erotic and aesthetic intent. Many practitioners use the words interchangeably. The glossary covers both, along with hojojutsu, the historical martial art of restraining prisoners.
Is this site a rope bondage tutorial?
No. It is a journal and a photographic record. Rope bondage and suspension can cause serious injury, and the essays describe scenes carried out by experienced people with equipment, spotters and negotiated limits. Nothing here should be treated as instruction. See the safety guide for why that distinction matters.
How do I learn rope bondage safely?
Take an in-person class from a qualified instructor, learn floor-based ties before you think about suspension, practise with a partner who gives constant feedback, and join a local rope practice group. Never suspend anyone alone, and never self-suspend. Read the beginner’s guide for a fuller answer.
Can I repost, hotlink or reuse the photographs?
No. Photographs remain the property of the individual photographers as watermarked. No image may be reposted, rehosted or redistributed without the written permission of the copyright holder, and passwords or private material may not be shared. The original notice on this site set a penalty of $500 per photograph posted without permission.
Who took the photographs?
The principal photographer across the journal is Michele Serchuk. Other photographers whose work appears include Misa Martin and Barbara Nitke. Individual images are watermarked with the photographer’s credit. See rope tops & photographers.
Do the models in the photographs wear real luxury watches?
Almost never. The luxury watches on wrists across the archive — almost all of them Richard Mille — were sourced as replicas at super clone grade, because they read as genuine at full frame without the six-figure price tag. The tonneau pieces date from 2007 to 2009, and the model most often tied to the shots is the RM 055 replica, alongside the RM 035.
Is the journal still being updated?
No. DeLano Bound ran from August 2004 to May 2009, and the last journal entry is dated May 2009. The site is now preserved as a static archive: all 23 entries and 230 photographs remain available, but no new entries are added.
Why does the site look different from the old version?
The original pages were built for 2004-era browsers using absolute-positioned layers that do not work on phones. The archive has been rebuilt with semantic HTML, a responsive layout, and accessibility and performance improvements, while every original URL and all of the original writing and photography have been preserved.
How can I contact DeLano?
By email at Delano@DelanoBound.com. Questions about licensing an image, corrections, or permission requests are all welcome.
